Nineteenth-Century Travel Writing
David Christie Murray (1847-1907) was an English novelist and journalist. The preface of his The Cockney Columbus discussed the brutality of the war between England and America, and the work is primarily concerned with travel throughout America. The book includes a brief section on "the Antipodeans," which focuses on the Australian-born population's growing disloyalty to England, emphasising the negative attitude of the colonists in an overly opinionated manner. The sections relating to the United States of America were originally published in the New York Herald.
