Notes

  • Author's note: Extract from a letter, November 25th, 1846: "We have had a death in our family which has been much felt this week. A Parrot which Henry brought us, and which I taught many sentences with ease, is dead. The most appropriate was, - 'Oh, Doctor, Doctor, I'm ill! shall I die?' We had a post-mortem examination - it died of pulmonary disease."
