AbstractHistoryArchive Description

This work is described by Miller as presenting 'social and economic phases of life in mandated territories of the Northern Pacific and the sex-attitudes of whites and blacks'. The dedication and the author's note suggest that it is a fictionalised re-telling of a diary kept by a Captain Tyarki. Whether this captain is an actual figure or a fictional persona is unclear.

Notes

  • Dedication: To the whitest man I ever knew, my faithful friend and companion during long years of wandering in the Pacific, I dedicate this book. Captain Tyarki.
  • Author's note: For obvious reasons, the names of many people in this story have been changed, otherwise it is a true account of the happenings, as written in Capi Tyarki's diaries. J. M.
