  • Dedication: To My Sister Louisa, these few Shades of Memory are affectionately and gratefully inscribed by The Author
  • Sighted copy of book contains the following inscription: 'To George Alfred Lloyd Esq. by his sincere friend The Author Fred Ford. Sydney 3rd April 1855.' (Held at Academy Library, University of NSW@ADFA)
  • Miller has listed this publication anonynmously with the note: 'Serle submits evidence that the author's name may have been Goldie'. (Source: Miller Australian Literature from Its Beginnings to 1935, 1940.)
  • Serle states: 'This volume has been attributed to "James Goldie", but as one of the poems is addressed "to my brother James" this would appear to be not quite accurate.' Serle indicates that there is evidence to suggest that the author's name may have been Goldie. (Source: Serle A Bibliography of Australasian Poetry and Verse, 1925.)
