Christine Brixton resents Andy Clarkson's generosity to anyone in need and breaks off her engagement to him. She leaves the township, but when she hears it is cut off by floodwaters and has run out of flour she braves the flooding river to take supplies to the townspeople. When she gets there she is shocked by what she finds.
