A young girl falls in love with a guest on her mother's farm, an author who is recuperating from illness. All seems to be going well until she reads the first line of a letter he has received and flees to stay with a friend.
A group of travelling performers is on the road to their next booking. Ella, the wife of the head of the troupe, is disturbed because her husband of eighteen months seems to be paying undue attention to another troupe member and she begins a flirtation of her own. It takes an accident while crossing a river to show her where her heart really lies.
