Censorship notes: One censor noted: 'I consider it a dangerous book, for, while purporting to condem (sic) sex licence which it portrays - eg. the imprisonment of Martha - it presents sex as a passion which cannot be controlled and disciplined especially in the American male. I recommend that this novel be banned.'
