The front part of the premises is employed as a book and stationery warehouse, in which a very large and well-conducted trade is carried on; the premises from cellar to garret being well fitted with every article pertaining to the supply of Literature in every form... in the rear of the shop is a large room which forms the library, and which from early morning to dusk is thronged with the fashion and wealth of our city... Maddock's is the Sydney Mudie's, and although we do not hear of 1200 copies of Tennyson's last poem being put on the shelves the supply of every class of reading matter, novels, travels, biography, &c., is very ample. The library has been established about 16 years, and besides enjoying the patronage of all the elite of the city and of many of our wealthy landed proprietors throughout the country has been patronised by our representatives of royalty in succession since its establishment.
