Mariette hates the dismal house, left to her by her father, where she lives with her two sisters, Clara and Dot. She decides to sell it, but her sisters are upset, particularly Clara, who seems devastated. When Mariette learns the reason she alters her plan.
Adrienne meets Willie when he saves her from eating a caterpillar in her lettuce. For two weeks they meet every day for lunch, but then Willie arrives with another girl.
