This thesis considers the problems associated with cross-cultural editing from the editor's point of view. It investigates different editorial approaches and relationships that have developed during the past twenty years of publishing Indigenous women's life writing, and by close reading of the marginalia examines the effects these relationships may have had on editorial practice. It ends with a discussion of protocols for non-Indigenous editors to use in cross-cultural editing, and includes a list of protocols for consideration by editors and other collaborators.
