AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Written prior to the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Australia, this thesis examines arguments used in a number of foreign campaigns against using taxes on books. Then, on the basis of evidence of the effect of taxes on books in over fifty countries, it is argued that such a tax would be detrimental for Australia.
