AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Australian book publishers, like publishers worldwide, are challenged by the advent of new media. Marshall McLuhan was prescient about many aspects of these challenges, but commercial firms are reinventing his wheel in terms of the way they think about technology and books. Content (including copyright), capacity and consumers are the three core issues considered in this thesis; they suggest that success will lie in understanding the decentralised and two-way nature of new media.
