This thesis is a study of Dr Grace Perry's dynamic role in Australian poetry and publishing. The office of her South Head Press became a nodal point for discussion, criticism and international exchange. Grace Perry planned and arranged finance for legendary poetry workshops and events in Sydney from 1968-1973, and played a significant role in the early publication and growth of many of the young poets of that era. Although the thesis gives more weight to her motivation as a poet, it documents her significant role in publishing Australian poetry and considers the split in the Poetry Society over her international vision for Australian poetry.
