Notes

  • Author's note: The collection is really the result of a Bower-bird-like propensity, begun as a child and grown more virulent with years, for gathering the sorts of things I like to remember and to have about me in case I should some day make use of them. The text is a purely personal selection. Some remembered things from childhood, from schooldays, from books and articles and magazines of all kinds. The photographs and drawings are almost equally haphazard, made at random to lie gestating in the mind until pushed out by a more urgent offspring.
  • Epigraph: Every animal is not found everywhere.
