Notes

  • Favenc wrote at least three slightly different versions of this work. All share the same opening five verses (some 40 lines), apart from one or two minor alterations. However there are significant differences in the subsequent verses. In addition, The Queenslander version contains only six verses, whereas The Australian Town & Country Journal version, and the version in Voices of the Desert both have eight. The version that appeared in Ingamells' anthology consists of the first five verses, and was taken from Voices of the Desert.
