AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Advertised in the Argus as a 'new local burlesque with local portraiture by a local author', the stage action included racing scenes, while the music contained excerpts from Jacques Offenbach's Orphée Aux Enfers (25 December 1867, p.8). A review in the same paper, following the premiere, indicates that the story, although quite incomprehensible' was amusing 'to a certain extent... the peculiarities of some of the strange personages always to be found at a race meeting being hit off rather skillfully, and not exaggerated more than was warranted by the occasion' (27 December 1867, p.6).
