Dick Hammond escapes an unhappy home life by runnning away to sea and ending up in Australia with the Robinson family. Drought on the family sheep station force Dick and Jack Robinson to try their fortunes on the Ballarat gold fields where they meet colourful characters and experience a tough but adventurous life.
