  • McCreadie provides an extensive investigation of the major primary docementary and musical source materials upon which subsequent biographical and evaluatory studies have been based. The examination is undertaken from sociological as well as biographical and musical standpoints. Special attention is attached to the creative significance of Hill's Leipzig years and of his special relationship to German composition traditions. Special reference is also made regariding Hill's close association with major cultural movements in Australia between 1892 and 1930.
