Notes

  • Epigraph: ...I who with the breeze / Had played, a green leaf on the blessed tree / Wordsworth. 'The Prelude' 1805.
  • Author's note: The observations and reflections of a simple cottage life are here preserved in notes and diary jottings. Although, by request, some details have been altered, they remain a faithful account of people, plants and creatures, of seasons and the countryside.
  • Structured in the format of a diary, this semi-autobiographical account is 'about the house which was the setting' for Macarthur-Onslow's children's books, Uhu (1969) and Minnie (1971).
  • Listed by Marcie Muir and Kerry White in Australian Children's Books (1992-2004). However, this work appears to be intended for an adult readership.
  • Contains one poem, 'Round House', by William Hayward. (p. 157)
