Notes

  • Author's note: The following collection of "Poems" was written by me during operations in the Dardenelles, throughout the whole of which I took part.
They were written in my Dug-out during lulls in the fighting, and are correct in detail and a truthful and unexaggerated account of the actual happenings.
In response to the wishes of many of my comrades I am hoping to successfully publish them in Book form, as a souvenir of the immortal "Anzacs." (p.[3])

Notes:

The first edition of this work has not been traced and only the third edition is listed in Miller and Macartney. Both second and third editions are held at the National Library of Australia. The place of publication for both the 2nd and 3rd editions is printed as 'Burton', which is likely to have been Burton-on-Trent, in Staffordshire, where Morris had served his printer's apprenticeship prior to coming to Australia, and where he had continuing family connections.
