Neil Cladingboel conceived the idea of Erebus and its hero Jonathan Edward Malone several decades before publishing the first story in 2000. He recalls on his Erebus website that he had long had a fascination with mirrors and often pondered the possibilities that they could do more than reflect our images. It also spawned Bortag's Curse, a companion novel.
This one volume edition includes the complete and revised texts of Reflections, The Anvil Amulet and Wraith Tide.
'Suffering a devastating childhood loss, Jonathan Edward Malone becomes withdrawn and despaired, blaming himself for the tragedies which have befallen his family. Twenty years later, the discovery of a hidden message on the back of an antique looking-glass plummets Jonathan into a subconscious adventure of mystery, betrayal, revelation and intrigue as he desperately searches for a solution to the riddle of the glass. A quest that will test all his beliefs as he battles his own inner demons and struggles to defeat a stronger, ancient malevolence, restore the celestial equilibrium and undo the tragic events of his past' (Equilibrium Books).
'Defeated in Erebus and angry over the loss of the Anvil amulet and his subsequent banishment, Jonathan's nemesis conspires to release armies of Rorrimwraiths into an unsuspecting world, creating havoc and devastation in every city they invade.
With the ancient amulet safely back in his possession, Jonathan embarks once again on a perilous journey through Erebus, and beyond, where he must summon all of his Heavenly powers to overthrow the Titans of Tartarus who protect and harbour his adversary. Only then can he hope to finally defeat their dark magic and turn back the tide of wraiths before the equilibrium, and perhaps the world, are lost forever!' (Equilibrium Books).
'Kronac, Lord of Erebus and Keeper of Souls, has been destroyed.
'When Supreme Elder Solandra announces to the assembled Council that she personally witnessed the Keeper's demise, revealing that Jonathan Malone was the assailant, Erebus is thrown into chaos, and a subsequent search for Malone's whereabouts proves fruitless.
'Having fled Erebus with Kryl of the Helices, a shocked and confused Jonathan is unaware he is being hunted as a fugitive, struggling as he is with the unusual circumstances of his return to Earth, where his consciousness has split across two very different timelines.
'When Kryl explains to him what has happened, and it becomes apparent that malevolent forces are at play, Jonathan realises that he must somehow get word back to Erebus to warn the Council of Elders.
'Trapped across two realities, wanted for murder, and with the Equilibrium under threat from a dark and powerful enemy, Jonathan must also face a devastating personal sacrifice to prevent the deaths of his infant nephews, his sister Sarah's beloved sons.
'Beloved Sons concludes the Erebus series and continues events from the conclusion of Wraith Tide, and the trilogy companion novel, Bortag's Curse.' (Publisher's blurb)
