Notes

  • In the preface, the author explains that this book is based on his own experience of naval service: 'The Cruise of the "Scout" is a story with a brief sketch of the daily routine, and the type of officers and men who manned the ships, and fought the guns of the British Navy of thirty-five years ago.... All that I have attempted to write, here and elsewhere, bears testimony.'
