19th-Century Australian Travel Writing
William Landsborough (1825-1886) was an explorer, magistrate and politician. Landsborough led two expeditions in search of the Burke and Wills exploring party in 1861 and 1862. The account of his 1861 journey south from Burketown near the Gulf of Carpentaria was published from his journal during the expedition. He sought to provide a concise account of the journey. The diary transcript was written in a detailed manner, chronicling the party's geographical and temporal movements.
