Notes

  • AustLit note: In August 1928 police constable William Murray led a party that carried out reprisals against the Warlpiri people. Murray admitted to seventeen killings but later researchers put the number of dead closer to seventy. In this poem the author depicts a novelist imaginatively re-creating this historical event.
