Notes

  • Editor's note: We asked Finole Moorehead [sic] to supply us with a brief prologue to these extracts from her novel in progress. She replied: 'I didn't want to write like swimming in a pool anymore, I wanted to write like swimming in an ocean. I came upon the structure accidentally or per force of circumstance. And that structure is four concentric spheres. The outer, simple poetic, like illustrations and diagrams,, the next, chaotic, myself, fiction and the present moment, the third is a story written by the character who was created in the second sphere, and the fourth, the inner sphere, is a diary or traveller's log, written by the central character of the story. The spiral centre of the whole is an investigation of the nature of women, here, now, whenever: whatever I perceive and understand."
