Moorhouse compares The Best Australian Stories 2004, edited by himself, with The Best American Short Stories for 2004. He notes differences of style and layout in the physical publications and, in terms of writing style, comments 'I think that in every case the Australians put their literary soul on the line. I didn't get that feeling with the American stories.'
