AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Tells the story of Jack Marshall and Tom Denman, who, en route from New Guinea, become stranded on a Great Barrier Reef island.

Notes

  • Preface states: 'In this little romance I have carefully avoided any sensational incidents that are in the slightest degree improbable ; even the flora and fauna of the islands being rigidly adhered to. Having frequently visited the isles of the Coral Sea for shooting purposes, to gather coral for lime- burning, etc., I am able to describe them as I actually saw them, and feel convinced that a good bushman could live easily for months on one of them; even if unprovided with powder and shot. The "Sail Rock" lies off Garden Island, at the entrance to Rockingham Bay, one of the noblest harbours in Australia. The cyclone here mentioned I also witnessed, and have described its effects in "My Wife and I in Queensland." - C. H. Eden.'
