Dedication: To a little boy and girl, who were very dear to me, and used to be always crying, 'tell us a tale.' To please them I began the story of how I learned to cook on board the old ship 'Monsoon,' and now, chapter by chapter, the simple story has grown into a book, for boys and girls everywhere.
