Andre Bovell, one of Australia's leadind playwrights, finds his recent workload leaning towards film. Since writing Speaking in Tongues for the stage, which he adapted into the film Lantana, he has taken on screen versions of 'A View from the Bridge', 'Chaos', and 'The Bride Stripped Bare.'
'Julian Meyrick's criticism Trapped by the Past : Why Our Theatre Is FacingParalysis (2005) inspired State of the Arts to organise a virtual round table. Along with Julian Meyrick were the newly appointed artistic directors. Michael Kantor from Malthouse (formerly Playhouse), Melbourne, Tom Gutteridge from Black Swan Theatre Company, Perth and Sally Richardson, head of the independent Steamworks Arts Productions.
