The poem is untitled in the Colonial Observer but preceded by a column with the title 'The First Primrose Seen in Australia' and an explanatory note beginning: 'When care is taken with a white bottle with a piece of sponge and a little earth in it, and to place it all in the bright light of the sun, plants may be carried alive in safety half round the world...'
