Notes:
Editor's note: Bruce Beaver, a central figure in Australian poetry since the 1960s, died earlier this year (see Editorial). He was to have received an honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University of Sydney on 30 April. This acceptance speech is apparently the last thing he wrote. The degree has been awarded posthumously.
