Clarke provides an account of conversations she had with Louisa Atkinson's granddaughter, Janet Cosh while Clarke was researching Atkinson's life. The article also traces the development of Atkinson's love of the Australian bush and its fauna, her burgeoning writing career and the hardships she experienced in her personal life.
