A family's financial collapse sees them move from their rural station to South Yarra in Melbourne. Eve gives up her beloved to look after her ailing father. Her rejected lover travels to the North Queensland mines with companions and Aboriginal boys. He joins forces with Yankee Jack Henderson, prospecting for months already, and they find gold. He returns to Melbourne, rescues Eve from a carriage accident, her brother from a business scandal, and after Eve's illness they marry, visit England and Europe and return to Australia for her child's birth.
