Following his retrenchment from the Cairns Post, Victor Kennedy established and edited Northern Affairs. The monthly periodical was short-lived, due in part to Kennedy's recurring kidney stone problems and to the Great Depression (Australian Dictionary of Biography).
Northern Affairs included regular columns such as 'People We Should Know', describing prominent Cairns local identities; 'Mainland and Barrier'; 'The Northern Woman and Her Interests'; 'The Office Boy's Column'; 'Cape York Brevities'; and 'The Student's Page'. The periodical's interest in Australian literature, in particular literature of Northern Queensland, was reflected in the regular 'Books and Book People' section, which incorporated 'The Far North in Books'.
