Mat Merton, a successful Port Phillip squatter, returns to his grandfather's grange in Yorkshire (and explores England and Europe) winning praise for his horsemanship. Three years later he returns to Australia to find his sister in love with a lawyer, while he falls for the lawyer's sister ...
