Birmingham comments on the publication of negative reviews, particularly of mass-market fiction, in the pages of Australia's broadsheet newspapers. He highlights the example of Matthew Reilly who was sharply (and personally) criticised in a review of Scarecrow written by Shaun Charles and published in The Courier-Mail.
