AbstractHistoryArchive Description

On the Red Hill diggings, gentle, good clinda Hilford, "the fairy of Red Hill", is abandoned by her unworthy suitor when he is recalled to England by his ailing father. Clinda is stricken to the heart and her selfish hypocritical father does not relieve her loss. Stephen Wild and the store-owner, Mrs Lovell, care for her and comfort her on the diggings. The successful and noble mine owner John Somerfield also loves her and it is to his health that Clinda's father directs his greed ... Patchy, often tedious romance of the goldfields with mainly historic interest. (PB)
