AbstractHistoryArchive Description

The tale opens on an outback station where the two cousins, Hugh and Fred are discussing Fred's love for the shepherd's daughter, Flora; and the arrival of Lord Templeton to whom Hugh is heir through the disappearance of the Lord's infant son years before. The ambition of Hugh's father burns as strong as it did in his youth when he hoped to inherit the title himself, and determines him to carry out one last terrible deed ... The drama of the main story is relieved by the humourous accounts of the servants' life and conversation. (PB)
