A South African diamond miner dies in an English hospital, entrusting a friend with a fortune in diamonds to be given to his daughter who he has not been allowed to see since leaving her in childhood. The friend urged on by his wife retains the diamonds for himself - but the girl comes to work as nursery governess for his family and through a letter found and innocently posted to her uncle, the theft is discovered and her fortune restored.
