A trip 'home' in March 1876 after 25 years in Australia commences with the voyage on the 'True Briton'; landing in England - customs duties etc.; the busy streets of London; restaurants, railways, Lancashire, manufacturing, scenery; social conditions eg. the English larrikin, drinking worse than Australia; Preston and Southport (Lancashire) and Saltaire (Yorkshire); labour, free trade; Blackpool; slate quarries; Welsh buses; Manchester; Worchester; Wales; Liverpool; American meat imports; markets; politics; Bradford; Leeds; 'Hollingworth Lake' holiday venue speculation; Rochdale; the return home very welcome.
