AbstractHistoryArchive Description

A young governess in Mrs Grasptight's ladies' seminary resigns and escapes to Melbourne when it appears her holidays must be spent at the school too. She falls ill while seeking work and eventually takes a job as governess in the country. It falls through, she returns to Melbourne, is involved in a street accident and is reunited with her long lost lover. A very patchy story but with interesting material in part, especially the depiction of the country school and family, loosely previsioning part of 'My Brilliant Career'. (PB)
