AbstractHistoryArchive Description

A carefree young clerk in London meets the woman he comes to love in the chapel at which his sister and brother-in-law worship. He eventually emigrates to Melbourne to make enough money on the diggings or in the city to marry. Just as he is ready to send for her, he sees her wraith in a cloud of smoke in the country near Melbourne. Wordy and occassionally sermon-like but still humanly interesting. (PB)
