A literary supplement to the University of New England's student magazine, Neucleus, its objective was to reflect the diversity of writing associated in any way with the scope of New England conditions - whether life-long residents or transient visitors, or those who were interested in an alternative publication. Kangaroo published music, stories, plays, reviews, interviews and articles about many subjects in an effort to include every form of writing which seemed distinctive and new. Overseas writers were also included.
Published annually, generally in the the final issue of Neucleus for each year.
The 25 October 1978 Neucleus issue included a seventeen page literary supplement called 'Poetry Anthology.' Another poetry anthology was published the following year (15 November 1979). Although considered the first of the Kangaroo series it did not bear that title. It was called simply Literary Supplement.
