A monthly and sometimes twice-monthly magazine published out of London by Amalgamated Press, The Red Magazine initially included a high-proportion of science fiction, fantasy and mystery but by the 1920s had shifted its focus towards light romance in the 1920s. It reverted back to adventure-based stories in 1930s. Among the authors publsihed in the magazine were H. Rider Haggard, A.E. Ashford, Bertram Atkey, Coutts Brisbane, A.M. Burrage, William Hope Hodgson, M.P. Shiel, Edgar Wallace, J. Russell Warren, Fred M. White and Australia's James Francis Dwyer.

For a period during the 1930s the cover bore the title Harmsworth's Red Magazine.
