Notes

  • Contains an unusual shift in narrative voice on page 129, when the author, who has not previously appeared in the story, suddenly and abruptly narrates an anecdote about his own real-life experiences among missionaries in Fiji, commencing with the statement 'More than twenty years ago, I (the writer) visited, on a holiday trip, each group of the Friendly or Tonga Islands, and a part of Fiji, in a mission ship.' This section also contains a footnote referring the reader to the author's 'recent book', Launching Away.
