AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Young English girl Kate Maysen is offered a position as governess to two young girls in Australia. Her parents and younger siblings will miss her terribly, but all agree it is in Kate's best interests to make the voyage. As Kate joins the Wilton family on their drought-affected property, she experiences an entirely different way of life - and she might even find love.

Notes

  • Preface to the first edition: The author of this book has lived in Australia for more than forty years, and is well known there as an occasional writer for the press. This tale, or a part of it, was written for the Sydney Mail, some years ago; but the author has lately revised and extended the work; and he ventures to hope that it will be instructive and amusing to many readers on each side of the world.
