A little girl goes to London, England, to visit the King at Buckingham Palace. A gust of wind lifts her over the wall and inside the palace door and she sees the king.

Notes

  • According to Marcie Muir in Sheila Hawkins : Profile of an Illustrator (1998) Hawkins and 'her travelling companion, [on the voyage from Australia to England in February 1932] ... created a small picture book, Black Tuppenny, which Heinemann accepted, and published that year... [1932]'. Hawkins 'later remembered the intense cold as she sat and sketched the gates of Buckingham Palace...' (p. 9)
