A grave man's changed demeanour from his former light-heartedness is explained by an encounter with a madwoman in a train. He escaped death only through the accident that killed her - and at the inquest learned she was his mother placed in a mental asylum for the murder of his older sister when he was an infant. 'Encounter on a train' genre - with a twist; basic narrative strength. (PB)
