Revenge by a Cornish maiden on the faithless lover who married another woman in Cornwall is played out on the Victorian goldfields. A kidnapped baby murdered by its old nurse, a boldly pretty rival, a worthy husband and father, and an injury in a mine, and death in a lunatic asylum are elements of this tale. (PB)
