Notes

  • Partly autobiographical and partly fictitious, this work comprises some 35 individual stories.
  • In the Preface, the author acknowledges the influence of his Masonic brethren and to whom he has 'fraternally and respectfully submitted' the work in the "earnest hope that [it] might be deemed not unworthy of a little nook in their libraries' (p.5). The Evening Hours is also dedicated to the 'the most ancient and illustrious fraternity' of Freemasons.
